Square
You may do up any granny square pattern (preferably flat ones), here's a very basic granny square pattern.
You may choose to CH 3 or do a standing DC as the first stitch.
End each round with SS to 1st stitch.
Aside Round 1, begin each round at corner; so either SS or attach new colour to 1st corner.
| Round | Stitches | Count |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | *3 DC, CH 2* × 4 | 12 |
| 2 | *(3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC) in CH-2 space, CH 1* × 4 | 24 |
| 3 | *(3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC) in CH-2 space , CH 1, 3 DC in CH-1 space, CH 1* × 4 |
36 |
Repeat R3 - working :
- (3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC) in each corner,
- 3 DC in each CH-1 space and
- spacing each 3-DC group with CH 1.
For reference, I made 11 rounds and came up to 33×33 cm.
Repeat for the other square.
Strap + Side of Bag
- Attach yarn to/make standing SC in 2nd CH of any corner in BLO.
- Work SC BLO in each stitch for 3 sides of the square (Repeat row for wider side)
- Continue with FSC to make up length of strap
For reference, I made 100 FSC and came up to 100 cm. Repeat for the other square.
Assembling
- Place squares with the 3 sides aligned
- Join by SS or sewing
- SS the straps together by the BLO as well
- Skip stitches to make button holes;
- Work till 17 stitches left from the end
- Skip 1, make a loose CH, and continue SS in next 3
- Repeat till the end
- On the other side, sew on 2-3 buttons to attach your strap.
This makes your strap adjustable; since crocheted straps stretch with weight and shrink back if unused for a while.
Optional - Add a toggle button for closure {ensure button can go through and catch in the CH-1 space between the 3-DC groups}
And we are done~
