Crochet Sunflower Motif Hobo Bag

There's not much originality in this pattern; it uses a common square patching layout that uses 13 squares. The motif is amended from a combination of sunflower designs. I absolutely love the outcome.

Assemble

Attach the squares with the Right Side facing using SC, CH 1 between each square

You do not have to follow how I join the squares but I did plan it in a way to minimize cutting yarn and creating more yarn tails.

FRONT

First, attach a square to each of 4 sides of a square; ref: #1, #4, #8 & #6 to #5.

BACK

Repeat the same for FRONT but include one more for the bag’s bottom; attach from:

  1. #9 to #3; CH 1 then,
  2. #10 to #12,
  3. #13 to #12,
  4. #11 to #12,
  5. #3 to #12,
  6. #9 to #10

BACK to FRONT + SIDES

  1. #2 to #3,
  2. #2 to #11, flip
  3. #2 to #1,
  4. #2 to #4,
  5. #3 to #4,
  6. #9 to #4,
  7. #9 to #8,
  8. #10 to #8,
  9. #7 to #8,
  10. #7 to #6, flip
  11. #7 to #13,
  12. #7 to #10

Edge

From here on, I will refer to the pointed corner as [PEAK] and the v point as [VALLEY].

Begin from the right [PEAK] of either side:
To be able to move directly to HANDLE later on without cutting yarn, start with 2 SC in first corner, work the 3rd SC at the end of the round, so we begin on the middle stitch of the (3 SC)

Round Stitches
1 (3 SC) in CH-2, SC in each stitch, sc2tog the CH-2 of the square below [VALLEY]
2 INC in the centre of the 3SC at [PEAK], SC in each stitch, skip 1 stitch (the sc2tog of R1) at [VALLEY]

Handle

Begin from the first of the INC stitch at right [PEAK]

Round Stitches
1
  1. SC, CH 70-100 (according to preference), SC to 2nd of the INC stitch at left [PEAK]
  2. SC in each stitch till next [PEAK], skipping 1 stitch in the [VALLEY]
  3. Repeat #1
  4. SC in each stitch, skip 1 stitch in the [VALLEY] till first stitch
2-3 SC in each chain & stitch, skipping 2 stitch in the [VALLEY]
4 RSC in each stitch, skipping 1 stitch in the [VALLEY]

Handle Inner Loop

Begin from the 2nd stitch from [VALLEY], SC in each stitch till one before handle; make a decrease before moving to underside of the handle, SS in each CH, repeat at the other side of handle, SC in each stitch down till one before the [VALLEY], sc2tog the last 2 stitches.
